This month, we are proud to spotlight Jessica Martin, our Human Resources Generalist, who plays a vital role in supporting our employees and ensuring the smooth operation of our HR department.
Jessica’s journey to Alternatives is one of growth and discovery. Originally from Great Falls, MT, she moved to Billings in 2011, seeking new opportunities. She attended MSU-Billings, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Organizational Communication and Sociology. It was during her post-graduation experiences that Jessica found her calling in Human Resources. “I found a great interest in Human Resources after going into miscellaneous roles following my graduation in 2018,” Jessica shares.
Joining Alternatives, Inc. in 2022 after working as an HR Coordinator for over a year, Jessica quickly became an integral part of our team. Her responsibilities are diverse and crucial to our organization’s success. “I work in HR, and a lot of my focus is on recruitment activities, screening applicants, offering positions, going to job fairs, and working with our managers to hire new talent,” she explains. Jessica also supports employees across the agency with leave requests, document updates, and addressing any HR-related questions or needs.
What sets Jessica apart is her genuine appreciation for the company she works for. “It is a great company that is always looking out for the well-being of their employees,” she says. “I believe the Agency supports their employees with scholarship opportunities, recognition activities, and celebrations. There is so much more they do than other companies I have been a part of, and I love that Alternatives truly serves our entire community.”
Beyond her professional role, Jessica is passionate about continuing her education and growth in HR. The agency has supported her pursuit of SHRM Certification, a significant milestone in her HR career. She currently resides in Billings with her husband and their two cats, looking forward to the future and the opportunities that lie ahead at Alternatives.
When asked what she wishes more people understood about Alternatives, Jessica is quick to highlight the agency’s broader mission. “We aren’t just strict corrections people with escapees and problems. We are truly helping heal trauma, addictions, and bettering lives one resident/client at a time,” she emphasizes.
